Preparing for a booze-free weekend

The first few alcohol-free days have not been too bad, apart from a slight craving for a mid-week drink on Wednesday after a long day at the office. Now, it’s the weekend and a whole new set of challenges approach.

I just had lunch with work colleagues as one of our team is leaving today. As usual, this was looking like turning into an extended mid-afternoon, drinking session so I made my excuses and left early.

So far I have had three offers of nights out for tonight, all of which I am fairly certain would tempt me to drink. Luckily it’s pretty cold and rainy so I don’t feel like going out much. I’ve invited a friend over to watch a movie instead.

I don’t plan to remain a hermit for the rest of the month though. As I see it, the key to the first few nights out is planning in advance. What will I drink instead of alcohol? How am I likely to be tempted and what will I do to make sure I am don’t give in?

I’ll update after the weekend how I got on. Wish me luck!

In terms of what to drink: soda water is my tipple of choice - it’s fizzy, so you don’t just knock is back; it tastes a little bit like a real drink; it looks a lot like a real drink; it’s often free
